Hallmarks
All pieces made by JDW Design are hallmarked by Birmingham Assay Office located near the Jewellery Quarter. As a designer I like the modern precise look and detailed nature of the deep relief laser mark, however I understand that some clients prefer the sense of tradition that the punched hallmark brings within jewellery. For this reason I offer both options for the client to make their choice. To learn more about hallmarks and hallmarking please follow the link below.In 1998 amendments were made to Hallmarking Act to bring the UK legislation in line with the rest of Europe, amongst a number of changes two of the most fundamental were making the Date Letter and Pictorial Fineness Standard Marks optional.
As a mark of respect to the 700 year old tradition of pictorial hallmarking within the UK, all bespoke pieces of jewellery and other items I produce will bear these now optional marks as a matter of course.
